a file does not open
four questions, in this order, stopping at the first no.
- 1 is the extension registered. ivf, obu, mp4, m4v, mov, mkv, webm, avi, mj2, apv, mxf. anything else never reaches sympathy; premiere takes it as it always did.
- 2 can it be decoded. the container named a codec and a decoder exists, or nothing was named and one of the candidates came back with a picture.
- 3 is sympathy allowed to take it. some formats are premiere's own and go straight back.
- 4 does your edition include it. the free build only.
four yeses and the file is sympathy's. anything else goes back untouched, and for a format premiere cannot open either that means it does not open at all. that is the free edition's boundary.
refusals that are not about the codec: the file does not read; no video track, which is what an audio-only .mxf out of a dcp or imf package is; no decoder; the codec unnamed and nothing tried returned a picture; disable = true in the conf; overrideExtensions narrowed.

disable = true. everything goes back, as though nothing were installed. it answers whether sympathy is the cause of something without removing it.
overrideExtensions narrows the list above.

the first line carries the edition, edition=free or edition=special. the plug-in's file properties carry it too, under ProductName.
PROBE verdict=decline is the refusal, worded the same whatever the reason, including a refusal by edition.
CONFLICT means two .prm in one folder.
install
MediaCore\sympathy. one folder, one .prm: the two editions cannot sit together, and if both end up there premiere loads both.
settings survive the move between editions.
